Harpar Grace International release results of Blue Light Protection Clinical Studies undertaken by iS Clinical

iS Clinical is recognised as a market leading cosmeceutical skincare innovator with clinically proven, results driven formulations. Their latest studies demonstrate the protective and regenerative qualities of their formulations against skin damage related to blue light exposure.

What is Blue light?

Blue light also known as HEV or high energy visible light, is part of the visible light spectrum seen by humans. Blue light has a short, high-energy wavelength ranging in 400 to 600 nm. Studies show that blue light penetrates skin deeply and can damage all skin layers.

Evidence shows that blue light produces oxidative stress in skin. This means that blue light could potentially damage skin and contribute to free radical damage, premature photoaging, hyperpigmentation, inflammation, and decreases in skin immunity.

The role of topical antioxidants

Topical antioxidants have been shown to be protective against prolonged blue light exposure to skin. These can be included in cosmeceuticals to convey protection against harmful blue light effects. Carotenoids from the Vitamin A group are especially effective in this regard. Cosmeceuticals with blue light protective abilities are of value to mitigate the damaging effects of blue light on the skin.

The study results

The ability of Extreme Protect SPF 40 (Beige), GeneXC Serum, PerfecTint Powder SPF 40, and Pro-Heal Serum Advance+ to protect against skin damage related to blue light exposure were evaluated in four extensive gene studies. The studies confirmed the damaging effects of blue light on skin. Exposure to blue light caused an increase in gene messaging associated with inflammation, oxidative stress response, mitochondrial stress pathways, and a decrease in gene messaging associated with DNA repair and survival/apoptosis.

Extreme Protect SPF 40 (Beige), GeneXC Serum, PerfecTint Powder SPF 40, and Pro-Heal Serum Advance+ all demonstrated protective and regenerative qualities again skin damage related to blue light exposure. These effects are seen in several families of genes grouped by function – DNA repair, endothelial function, epigenetics, inflammation initiation and control, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress response, skin ageing, extracellular matrix modulation, cell survival, apoptosis, and autophagy.

iS Clinical are committed to skincare ingredient innovation and formulation efficacy. With the growing awareness regarding the potential damage from HEV exposure ( High Energy Visible Light /Blue Light), they are delighted to announce that their latest studies demonstrate the protective and regenerative qualities of their formulations against skin damage related to blue light exposure.”
