The AMWC Aesthetic Disruptors Award is a unique initiative designed to spotlight the next generation of aesthetic medicine professionals. Open to those with less than 10 years of professional experience or current residents in training, the award provides a global platform for innovators to share their groundbreaking work with the AMWC audience. With a focus on relevance, coherence, effectiveness, originality, and evidence-based research, this competition celebrates the achievements of young scientists and clinicians who are shaping the future of aesthetic medicine.
Adriana Panayi: Advancing Fat Grafting Outcomes

Adriana Panayi, a Plastic Surgery Resident from Germany, won the award for her groundbreaking research on Promoting Adipose Tissue Formation and Survival through Pre- and Post-Conditioning using External Volume Expansion (EVE). Her work demonstrates how delayed post-conditioning significantly enhances fat graft survival by avoiding early inflammatory phases and improving vascularization.
Adriana believes EVE has immense potential in aesthetic treatments, stating, “By improving graft survival and maintaining volume retention, EVE addresses one of the main challenges of fat grafting: the unpredictable resorption of fat over time.” She encourages others to enter the competition, highlighting the opportunities for collaboration, funding, and career advancement it provides. “Winning validates your ideas and positions you as a thought leader in the field,” she shares.
Tom Decates: Innovating in Immunology and Safety

Tom Decates, an Aesthetic Physician from the Netherlands, was recognized for his pioneering research on the high risk of late-onset, immune-mediated adverse reactions to soft tissue fillers in patients with specific HLA haplotypes. His findings pave the way for safer, more personalized approaches in aesthetic medicine.
Tom’s research extends beyond fillers to other foreign body materials, such as breast and hip implants. “Our latest scientific research focuses on breast implants, which will soon be published,” he reveals. Reflecting on his win, he says, “At first, I couldn’t believe it. Now I feel very proud and inspired to raise the bar in Aesthetic Medicine.”
Why Enter the AMWC Aesthetic Disruptors Award?
Both winners emphasize the value of participating in the competition. Adriana and Tom encourage young scientists to showcase their work, gain global exposure, and inspire future advancements. “There are so many young, enthusiastic scientists who have done great disrupting research,” says Tom. “I’m very much looking forward to hearing from them and sharing their knowledge with the world!”
The AMWC Aesthetic Disruptors Award celebrates innovation, offering a platform to bring transformative ideas to life. Adriana and Tom’s achievements exemplify the groundbreaking spirit of this initiative, inspiring others to contribute to the evolution of aesthetic medicine.
